BCSE Decent School Standard Proposal
The Decent School Standard was officially launched on Wednesday 25th January, our chief executive, Nusrat Faizullah, described it as 'the beginning of the decent schools movement'. And under 24 hours later, we are delighted that so many organisations are already looking to get involved with the development of the Standard. The BCSE's model for the Decent School Standard
In a time when school regulations
are being reduced and we are told to create schools that are 'fit for
purpose' the industry must set a new benchmark. The BCSE wants to work
with our members to outline what defines a decent learning environment
that is both effective and efficient.
Through our work within the Great Schools Enquiry and using the evidence that has been collated on learning environments, the BCSE has created a model that brings together the factors required for a Decent School Environment.

Process to create the Decent School Standard
Together with partners, we wish to create the different elements explained in the proposal over the next year. Below is a proposed timeline:
Phase 1: JAN -- APRIL -- Bring
together research from partners and publish a research paper
identifying the different factors making up the Decent School Standard
and the outcomes on different stakeholders.
Phase 2: APRIL -- MAY -- Conduct a survey with hundreds of different schools to analyse the relationship between factors within the learning environment and outcomes on different stakeholders.
Phase 3: JUNE -- AUGUST -- Develop and test toolkits and evaluation tools.
Phase 4: SEPT -- DEC -- Take the Decent School Standard into schools via a road show making materials available to all. And use the standard as the basis for advocacy (that evidence shows that learning environments do make a difference) with clients (e.g. LAs, academy chains, dioceses) and with politicians, decision-makers and key opinion formers.

* Evidence that you have put together or seen
* Contacts with experts and organisations in this field
* Support writing think pieces and research document
* Your participation in working groups to develop the toolkits
* Post-occupancy evaluation information
